About the Business
Employers liability insurance holders have been given advice to follow when they are choosing external health and safety consultants by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). The organisation said that the ultimate responsibility for the suitability of these people lies with the employer. RoSPA made these comments after the government launched its Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR) on March 21st. This is a database which contains information about highly qualified health and safety experts.
The government hopes the OSHCR will enable employers to identify competent advisers more easily. Although on the register all will be professionally qualified and be bound by a code of ethics, most will in fact have specialist rather than general and totally transferable expertise, Roger Bibbings, occupational safety adviser at RoSPA, said.
